Hi, I’m Mark Jones.

I am the Founder and Lead Trainer of It’s About Time, a premier, concierge fitness training company. We specialize in adults aged 50–85, with a particular focus on helping seniors maintain strength, mobility, balance, and independence as they age.

Founded in 2022, It’s About Time is built around a holistic, life-capability approach to fitness. Rather than emphasizing aesthetics or generic gym performance, our work is organized around real-life outcomes: getting up from the floor, climbing stairs confidently, carrying groceries, maintaining balance, and preserving the physical capacity required for independent living.

Since founding the company, I have personally conducted more than 1,200 training sessions with clients ranging in age from 30 to 84. A substantial portion of my client base consists of adults in their 70s and 80s, many of whom had little or no prior strength-training experience before working with me.

Training Philosophy & Specialization

My approach combines evidence-based strength training, balance and mobility work, and advanced assessment tools to create individualized, age, and condition-appropriate programs. I place strong emphasis on safety, progression, and measurable outcomes.

A core component of my practice is the use of FDA-approved full-body Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology. This modality allows older adults to safely activate deep muscle fibers, build strength, and improve function with minimal joint stress and short, efficient sessions. This is supplemented by traditional resistance training, bodyweight movement, and balance work as appropriate.

I also incorporate medical-grade Styku 3D body composition and posture scanning as part of a comprehensive assessment process, providing objective baseline data and ongoing progress tracking.

Earlier Career Background

Prior to founding It’s About Time, I spent more than three decades in senior leadership roles in the accounting, consulting, and advisory services industry.

This background informs my current work in important ways: disciplined assessment, data-driven decision-making, clear communication, and a strong sense of accountability to outcomes.

Working with Older Adults

Today, my professional focus is entirely on helping older adults stay strong, capable, and confident in their bodies. I work closely with each client to understand their goals, health considerations, and daily life demands, and I design programs that are practical, respectful, and grounded in current exercise science.

From the intensive care unit (ICU)… to the Pull-up Bar

Mark’s EMS Recovery Story

February 24th – my first 30 steps

June 9th – 10 pull-ups on my 72nd birthday

Jan 26th, 2024. I thought it was a bad flu, but wobbling into my doctor's office, the last thing I remember was hearing someone call out "AMBULANCE NOW"!!

2½ weeks passed before I became even vaguely aware of where I was and what had happened. I had contracted Leptospirosis, a rare bacterial infection. A team of doctors had battled as my body's organs shut down. Liver, kidney, lungs, pneumonia, blood clot, intubation, dialysis--ICU and a medically induced coma.

I was hospitalized 6 weeks as my body stabilized and began to function again. On March 4th I was released.

As a Certified Fitness Trainer I had been strong and fit going in. Now, I had lost 27 pounds. To say I had no strength doesn't begin to convey how weak I was. I remember a nurse handing me my phone at about Week 4 and it felt like I was lifting a 25-pound barbell.  My arms were literally empty sacks of sagging skin.

10 days before I was to leave, a Physical Therapist helped me take my first steps. I managed about 30 halting steps (though I refused the walker).  It completely exhausted me.

Of course, I asked about my recovery path and timeline. "Figure a week for every day in the hospital". 8 months!!!!  No way, no way, no way, I vowed.  "Trainer, train thyself!"

I began with gentle EMS and careful walking, building from there. I increased my EMS strength sessions in duration, frequency, intensity, and walked longer and longer. Three months later I hit my goal right on time. 10 pull-ups on my 72nd birthday.

EMS training and a structured fitness plan, challenging goals, and determination. I did it - let me help you do it too!
