What is ems

The Science

Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a proven training method that enhances how muscles activate and adapt. By combining voluntary movement with controlled electrical impulses, EMS allows muscles to contract more deeply and efficiently than with conventional training alone.

2x20 mins a week

EMS delivers in minutes what used to take hours in the gym. Combining progressive overload, sufficient recovery, and proper nutrition delivers real results in just two 20-minute sessions per week.

The EMS Difference

Efficient Muscle Activation

EMS activates up to 90% of muscle fibers in a single session, compared to approximately 60–70% with traditional strength training. This high level of activation leads to faster strength gains and improved muscle tone.

Time-Saving

Two 20-minute EMS sessions per week can deliver results comparable to several hours of conventional workouts, making it ideal for busy schedules.

Joint-Friendly & Low Impact

Because EMS achieves muscle activation without heavy external loads, it places less stress on joints, tendons, and the central nervous system—making it a safer option for many bodies.

Boosts Bone Density

EMS doesn’t stop at muscles. It influences the bones they cling to, boosting bone density for a sturdier foundation.

Who EMS Is For?

Time-challenged professionals

If your schedule is packed and workouts keep falling to the bottom of the list, EMS makes it realistic again. You get a focused, full-body session in 20 minutes—guided, efficient, and easy to fit into real life.

Older adults

If you want to stay strong, move with confidence, and keep doing the things you love, EMS offers a gentle but effective way to train. Sessions are low-impact, fully supported, and designed to meet you where your body is today.

Serious fitness clients

If you already train hard but feel stuck or short on time, EMS helps you get more out of every session. It challenges your muscles in a new way, supports performance goals, and works alongside the training you’re already doing.

What a session looks like

A full EMS session lasts approximately 30 minutes total:

  • ~10 minutes to suit up and prepare

  • ~20 minutes of guided training

Training is fully guided, highly interactive, and adjusted continuously based on your feedback and performance.

Sessions can be performed in small spaces, indoors or outdoors, and even virtually.

Client Reviews

“EMS training has been a total game-changer for me—and I don’t say that lightly. For years, I found every reason not to stick with a routine: no time, gyms that felt uncomfortable, inconvenient locations, and results that were too slow (or didn’t show up at all). Then I started EMS training with Mark, and those excuses disappeared.

What makes it work is how practical it is: the remote training option gives me real flexibility, and the sessions are incredibly efficient—turning a 90minute commitment into about 30 minutes without sacrificing intensity and impact. It’s also comfortable, approachable, and fully adaptable to my ability and goals.

And the results are real. When I started, I could do only 3 pushups. Now I can do 35—and I’m on track to hit 50 by my 50th birthday next January. I’m feeling the same kind of progress in overall strength, balance, and endurance. If you want a training approach that fits into a busy life and delivers measurable outcomes, EMS training is it.”

“Best decision ever!  When I agreed at age 77 to care for my grandson until he is 18 months, I knew I didn’t have the strength at that time to carry 30 pounds up and down stairs safely.  I quickly signed up for individualized training with It’s About Time.  I didn’t have much time to get in shape.  Through regular fitness training (EMS and the YMCA, all supervised with Mark   I am now stronger and more fit and flexible than I have been since my early 60’s. The weight, stairs and getting up and down from the floor are not an issue now.  My children are truly amazed. I am turning back the clock on aging!”

“I cannot recommend Mark Jones, and time4ems.com, highly enough. I am a 71 year old professional with many orthopedic issues, including 5 major surgeries in the past 4 years. While in good cardiovascular health from swimming, I was weak and stiff… and unable to find the time to go to the gym every day to lift weights.  With the benefit of twice-weekly EMS sessions with Mark over the past 2 years, I have tripled my upper and lower body strength. Now, my family, friends, and health care providers are all complementing me on my lithe and assured posture and gait. My arm, chest, and leg muscles are noticeably bigger and stronger. Many of my joint pains are better after strengthening the muscles around them. Mark has also helped me to focus on practical, real-world important skills such as balance, mobility, and core strength. To my delight I am now in the elite category for measures such as repeated chair stands and rapidly getting up from the floor – all skills we need to maintain as we get older! ”
